Dear FIBA,

Here is another voice from someone with 20 years experience in 
basketball watching, a professional researcher, and a behavioral 
analyst. This scam was so obvious that could even be taken to court.

Another great moment in basketball history, up there with SSSR - USA 
final, Lithuania - Yugoslavia final, and Argentina - Yugoslavia final. I 
don't think it is necessary to mention precisely which games I am 
talking about. I would personally rate this one No.2.

But hey, I am a Croat fan, right?! I cannot be objective, even as a 
professional.

As one of the constant fans of basketball sport as such, I am currently 
of a mind to stop watching it altogether, just like I quit with 
water polo, since it became obvious that referees can steer the game as 
they see fit.

Shame on anyone who was involved in this!

"I am just an angry Croat, and I know that this e-mail wont't be very helpful for Croatia anymore, but I had to write it. Last night, I was very enthusiastic, Croatian b-ball national team played quarterfinals vs. Spain. The game was held in Belgrade, and we all expected that crowd would be on Spain's side but we didn't expect that the referees would be on their side as well. Luigi Lamonica, Virginius Dovidavicius and Grzegorz Ziemblicki are the most wanted people in Croatia right now. What they did was shameful. I know, they are only human, and all of us makes mistakes but theirs mistakes were so big and they led Spain to semifinal. After the game last night many people from all around the world wrote the same thing I'm writing right now: CROATIA HAD TO LOSE, and referees were there to help that to happen! I thougt that this could never happen in basketball after what happened in WC in football in Japan and South Korea 2002 (Koreans were 3rd with great help of referees) and in EC in handball in Slovenia 2004. But I was so wrong... Just one more question for you: Are you punnishing Croatia because what happened in 1995, or was it just too much for Serbs in FIBA to hear Croatian national anthem in Belgrade?

My apologies for any gramatical or spelling mistake in this text, I think you will know what I wanted to say.

 ne do im bog da ne dobijemo pozivnicu za japan... ako se to dogodi... onda stvarno... nakon ovakve krade i krade MEDALJE ne daju nam ni pozivnicu... nadam se da cemo zgazit one janeze danas... ako ne i ako ne dobijemo pozivnicu za SP FIBA ce dozivjet takav raspad... pazite sta kazem RASPAD FIBE!!!

To whom it concerns,

I am a Croat, from the city of basketball - Zadar.

You know, here in Croatia, we feel for basketball as for something
extraordinary, something beautiful. As your slogan says, "you" are
basketball. Well, please, know the following:

I'd like you to remember three names: Luigi Lamonica, Virginuis
Dovidavicius and Vladimir Drabikovsky. Those three names should be
forbidden to appear ever in the game of basketball, after what they
did to the national team of Croatia yesterday evening versus Spain.
Not only that they misjudged nearly every foul on the game, but for
some reason, they felt like this game is played for them and not for
the spectators or for the countries that were doing it's best to
represent themselves as good as they can on Euro2005 in Belgrade.
Croatia tried to do that too.

Starting from numerous issues outside the court and continuing in that
tone on the court, I can't help myself not to ask "Is this
possible? Is it really possible not to punish these referees after the
massacre they did to Croatia?" They STOLE the victory from us. PERIOD.

At the end of the regular time, when an overtime was to happen, the
national tv did not, I repeat, did not show a replay of what happened
with the Marko Tomas at the 73-71 for Croatia a few seconds before the
end of the 4th quarter. Why?

Three referees should not have such a great power to throw a whole
country on it's knees only because of higher interests. BAN THEM!

One more thing. I'd like to be wrong, but people all over the world
(including Lithuania, Israel, Italy, Montenegro etc) think that
Croatian entrance to semifinals would be too much, considering the
circumstances with Serbian defeat against France. Thousands were
yelling "SERBIA, SERBIA!" for Spain when the game was happening. The
boys who were to cheer the spectators on the halftime of the
Germany-Slovenia game by representing 16 nations of the tournament
wore 15 different jerseys (each one was to represent a different
nation) and one boy was wearing a pure white t-shirt? Of course, among
the 15 Croatian jersey wore noone.

Finally, prove what you claim - prove that you are basketball, and prove
that you will not let this unpunished.
